Northern Province: Silver Jubilee Celebration
St. Teresa’s Provincial House, Bhopal. 31st July, 1st & 2nd August 2014
A Vibrant Celebration with a Difference!!
25 years of God’s compassionate and providential love, as well as the fruitful service of the CSSTs in North India, just cannot be overlooked or by-passed with only a day’s festivity. Hence the sisters of the Northern Province had a 2-day intensive evaluation of their religious life, with Sr. Lorraine, CSJ, as the resource person. This unique, soul-searching event, based on the theme of the forthcoming, Provincial Chapter, “The CSST in the footsteps of Jesus the Mystic and Prophet,” served as an eye-opener for the 30 participants. Every community was represented. This will indeed be a great help in the forthcoming Chapter deliberations.
On the 1st August, the Provincial and 11 sisters of the Eastern Province joined the group, (as they were part of the Northern Province till 2006) and conducted an inspiring and relevant Prayer Service, which was followed by an appetizing dinner and hilarious recreation – fun and games, in which every sister participated. The comic photos are proof of this.
The highlight of the Jubilee Celebration was the Thanksgiving Eucharist on 2nd August celebrated by 8 SVD priests. (We are deeply indebted to the SVDs, who rendered us tremendous help, when we first stepped into Bhopal as utter strangers.)
Our Postulants led us in praise and worship, with a devotional entrance dance. They also sang the parts of the Mass and appropriate hymns both in English and Hindi, with the Te Deum as the grand finale.
After the Eucharistic Celebration, everyone assembled in the quadrangle for a ceremonious cutting of the Jubilee cake (not ordered, but beautifully made by one of the sisters). Eight little students, from our Carmel Convent, Kolar road school, entertained everyone with dance and songs. By the way our Silver Jubilee project is the education and care of these poor girls, who are picked up from the slums of Bhopal.
Our Jubilee festivity would not be complete without a sumptuous lunch, which everyone enjoyed. (The Provincialate workers and their families were also invited for this fellowship meal.)
Having partaken of the jubilee agape, the Sisters started packing their bags and were off to the station, group by group heading for their somewhat distant destinations in various states of India. All good things come to an end, but the CSSTs of the Northern and Eastern Provinces will not forget this unique event, which will go down in the history of the CSST Institute.
